Various global and local organisations have carried out surveys regarding travellers' expectations. Below we have chosen to present some of the results of these surveys about British, German, Dutch, American, Danish, Swiss, Canadian and Italian travellers' concerns when travelling or going on holiday.

British travellers:

83% say that a dirty beach or polluted sea and 51% that food or water shortages for local residents, matter a great deal to them when choosing a destination 
45% would be prepared to pay 5% more (in average) to support preservation of the local environment, reverse the negative environmental effects of tourism and if workers in the destination are guaranteed good wages and working conditions.

They would pay more if hotels serve food produced locally ( 36% ) or money went to support a local charity ( 22% ). 
3/4 agree that their trip should include experiences of local culture and food. 
65% feel that the reputation of the holiday company on environmental issues is important 
50% (approx.) are interested in finding out more about local social and environmental issues before booking a trip 
75% declare that the inclusion of social and environmental information in tour operators' brochures is important to them 
2/3 think it is important that the tour package is "specifically designed to cause as little damage as possible to the environment."

30% said that it was very important that their holiday benefited the people of the destination they were traveling to

80% are more likely to book a holiday with a company with a 'responsible' travel policy

German travellers :

60% are concerned about litter in the surrounding area 
51% about noise pollution from traffic or discotheques 
46% about good nature protection in the destination 
42% consider how environmentally friendly the accommodation is when deciding 
64.5% seek clean water and beaches 
20% (approx.) welcome clearly indicated offers, which are particularly environmentally-friendly 
1/3 would like to be able to reach the destination by bus or train , and would also prefer to have good public transport at the holiday destination instead of having to use the car

Dutch travellers:

82% believe that integrating environmental information into travel brochures is a good idea 
73% stated that they would use this information when selecting accommodation

American travellers:

61% are looking for travel experiences involving well preserved natural, historical or cultural sites 
53% agree that they have a better travel experience when they learn as much as possible about their destination's customs, geography and culture. 
75% feel that it is important that their visits do not damage the environment

According to National Geographic Traveller, there are 55 millionGeotourists in the United States who are environmentally and socially responsible.

Americans say it's ?extremely? or ?very? important to work for (79 %), buy products and services (65 %) from companies with a CSR policy.

Danish travellers:

69% of those staying in eco-labelled hotels are willing to pay more for such hotels 
51% opt for environmentally friendly resorts and accommodation, while 82% prefer an intact environment

Swiss travellers:

95 % consider respect for local culture to be highly important when choosing a holiday

Canadian travellers:

28% say they would pay a premium for an ethical and sustainable holiday

Italian travellers:

32% of Italians are willing to switch to more ethical and greener vacations
